Air Rescue
College
The Training Department
of ÖAMTC Air Rescue
The Air Rescue College is the training and continuing education division of the Christophorus Air Rescue Association. Through selection processes, training sessions, information sharing, and the implementation of innovative projects, the Air Rescue College establishes and promotes the necessary conditions for operating air rescue services at a high standard of quality and safety.
Training Path for Air Rescue Personnel
During a three-day assessment center, prospective air rescue personnel first have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills. Once they have successfully completed this selection process, it takes about 300 more theoretical and practical training sessions before paramedics become HEMS crew members.
In the first step, all subject areas are taught in theory and practice in accordance with European regulations. Individual hands-on training, orientation at the home base, and supervised flights facilitate the transition from the classroom to actual operations. At the end of the HEMS Crew Member Training Course, trainees must pass a written and practical final exam.
Ongoing Professional Development
Through exercises and training sessions, the knowledge and skill levels of the Christophorus crews are continually refreshed, expanded, and kept up to date with the latest research. For emergency physicians and flight paramedics, each base offers practical and theoretical training and continuing education courses on topics related to medicine, rescue operations, and flight safety.
In order to safely carry out the various tasks involved in day-to-day operations, ongoing professional development is required—ranging from mandatory duties to annual training sessions and recertification.
