About the Base

Christophorus 7 is stationed at the Lienz-Nikolsdorf airfield in East Tyrol. The base opened in 2001 and took over air rescue operations for the regions of East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia. The crews are on duty from 7 a.m. until dusk. Since 2018, the entire crew has been trained in night flights using night-vision equipment and can also carry out missions in the evening hours if necessary. The C7 is dispatched by the Tyrol Control Center. There is also a digital interface with the Carinthia Rescue Control Center, which allows information to be transmitted directly to our crews.

Field of Application

The service area covers the regions of East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia. In Carinthia, service is provided primarily to the Upper Gail Valley, the Upper Drau Valley, and the Möll Valley. With the Hohe Tauern National Park, as well as the Großglockner and the Großvenediger, the Lienz district is a high-alpine, challenging service area for our crews.
