Computed tomography performed right on site.
In early July 2026, shortly before noon, Christophorus 18 was dispatched to a radiology practice in Oberpullendorf to respond to a neurological emergency. The ÖAMTC emergency medical helicopter took off from its base in Frauenkirchen and arrived at the scene a few minutes later. There, the patient received emergency medical care through the joint efforts of the crew and a medical team that was already on site.
This was actually a typical call for the C18 crew. What’s rare, however, is that—due to the unique location of the emergency—the equipment could be used directly on site. A CT scan ruled out any immediate danger to the patient’s life even before she was transported. This is an example of the optimal use of resources, which made it possible to provide assistance even more quickly and smoothly.
What made this situation unique was that the medical team and the radiologist on site immediately made use of the on-site CT scanner. A CT scan of the emergency patient’s skull was performed immediately and evaluated right away—allowing them to rule out any immediate threat to her life.
