Almost Like Santa Claus

A baby girl is born in a parking lot in the Leoben district.

A special emergency call took place last Sunday in the late afternoon in Traboch: The ÖAMTC emergency medical helicopter Christophorus 17 was dispatched to a “birth in a car” in a supermarket parking lot. When the Red Cross team from Trofaiach arrived, the baby’s head was already visible. Shortly thereafter, C17 landed nearby—and just a few minutes later, a healthy baby girl was born. Both mother and child were doing well and were treated and examined together in the ambulance. The father—visibly proud—cut the umbilical cord himself. Afterward, the mother and daughter, accompanied by the Christophorus crew, were transported by ambulance to Leoben Hospital. This mission, which took place shortly before Christmas, once again demonstrates the seamless collaboration between the Red Cross and ÖAMTC Air Rescue—and ended with a very special gift for everyone involved.
